Photography and Filming Policy

This policy outlines the expectations and responsibilities for all players, families, coaches, and spectators capturing visual media at club events, training sessions, and games. CD Elite Basketball Club is committed to protecting the privacy, safety, and well-being of all participants, particularly children. This policy aligns directly with the Basketball Victoria Photography and Filming Policy and is compliant with Australian Child Safety Standards. 

 The club recognizes that capturing images is a normal part of celebrating community sport. Photography and filming are permitted under the following terms:

• Personal Use: Parents, guardians, and relatives are encouraged to photograph or film their own children or team from the sidelines using personal devices, provided it is not intrusive.
• Coaching & Training: Coaches may record games or training sessions for instructional or tactical purposes, provided they notify the parents of their own team and the opposition coach/team manager prior to the game.
• Official Club Content: Designated club volunteers capturing promotional content must be easily identifiable (e.g., wearing club apparel) and hold a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC)

 To ensure safety and privacy, the following rules are strictly enforced:

• Restricted Areas: Under no circumstances is photography or filming allowed in change rooms, bathrooms, or any private venue spaces.
• Consent for Long-form Recording: Prior permission must be obtained from the opposing team's coach or manager if an individual intends to record entire games or substantial portions of play.
• Opposition Objections: If the opposing team denies permission to record, filming must cease immediately, even if the footage is not intended for social media.

Basketball Victoria guidelines recognize that individuals may have legitimate reasons to object to being filmed (e.g., child safety exemptions, contested custody proceedings, or safety threats).

• Immediate Cessation: If an objection is raised, the photographer must immediately stop capturing footage of that individual or team.
• Selective Capture: If consent is withheld by the opposition, you may only photograph or film your own family member, ensuring no players from the opposing team are captured.
• Confidential Notifications: Families with formal safety exemptions should notify the Club Committee confidentially so proper precautions can be arranged with competition organisers.

 When uploading images or videos to social media, websites, or messaging groups:

• Focus on Sport: All images must be captured and shared strictly within a respectful sporting context.
• Protect Personal Details: Never publish a child's personal information alongside their image (e.g., full names, school, email, or exact home location).
• Appropriate Depictions: Do not post images that are revealing, compromising, open to misinterpretation, or depict children in distress.
• Private Groups: The club recommends that team-specific photos are shared primarily within closed, private team groups (e.g., WhatsApp, Messenger) rather than public feeds.

Accredited Media: Photographers carrying official Basketball Victoria Media Accreditation are permitted to shoot at sanctioned events. They must wear their BV accreditation badge and a high-visibility vest if shooting from the baseline. They are exempt from notifying team managers due to their professional accreditation status.

Automated Systems: Many venues use automated systems. Participation in these leagues is governed by the venue and competition terms of entry.

If you observe any individual engaging in inappropriate, intrusive, or unauthorized photography:

1. Do not confront the individual aggressively.
2. Report the behavior immediately to the Venue Court Supervisor or a club official.
3. The Supervisor has the authority to request that the person stop or verify their relationship with the match. If necessary, venue management may escort individuals from the premises.
